More Great Wordpress Themes Worth Checking Out

I’m curious – how many of you use Google Bookmarks? I would be LOST without them. If you are not familiar, you can install the Google toolbar and quickly bookmark any page by simply clicking on the “Bookmarks” link on the toolbar.

Anyhow – I have somehow accumulated over 400 bookmarks, tagged with a slew of keywords that aren’t exactly organized in any beneficial way. One tag (category) I do maintain however is called “themes”. Periodically I enjoy scrounging for new and interesting Wordpress themes (by scrounging, I’m talking digging into 20+ pages of Google search results!). I thought I’d share a few more with you (see this post for a few others):

New Wordpress Themes

As of this post, they are offering 92 free themes. You need to look for yourself – these are top notch designs. A few I personally like are Creatismo, PressBlue (which this site is/was using – I might be changing themes again!), and Praven.

DigitalNature

Only 4 themes available here – but they are unique. If you are looking for something different yet slick, take a look.

CSSJockey

Just one theme to show you here… called Imagination. Looks gorgeous! Can’t wait to try it out on one of my sites.

Twitter Analytics? See How Your Tweets Are Affecting Your Followers

Came across an interesting site the other day that interfaces with the Twitter API to analyze (compare) your tweets against new and lost followers. The site is called TweetEffect and is a free service. It’s pretty interesting to take a look at the comparison between your tweets and followers. This would be especially useful if you were going to post a controversial tweet (or series) and wanted a quick overview of the effects on your followers.

Decided On A Theme, Found Some Nice Theme Sites Too

Finally decided on a theme, going with Flexibility Theme version 2. It was given a big thumbs up at the Warrior Forum so I decided to check it out. Must say, it’s the most customizable free theme I’ve ever come across. I’m not done with the final design but it’s a work in progress.

During my theme hunting I found a few sites I really liked. There are tons of free Wordpress themes available online but a lot of them are mediocre to say the least. If you’re ever on the lookout for some fresh themes check these sites out:

FreeThemeLayouts.com

They only showcase about 50 themes or so, but there are some beauties in there. A couple of my favorites are BoldLines and KikiBerry. I also love how they display their themes – you can easily hover over the thumbnails to get a larger image. That means no clicking back and stuff, saves a lot of time. You can also demo each one of the themes as a full site.

If you’re looking for a news theme look no further. Some gorgeous ones available here, worth checking out. They also have a beautiful site design with large images of the blogs to make it dead simple for previewing.

I like the themes on this site, and use one over at my Free RSS Tips blog. I think it only cost something around $10 to get the theme without their backlinks on the bottom, otherwise they are free. There’s a lot more themes to choose from on this site, and some rather unique ones.

Twine Is Live, Where’s Yours?

If you haven’t heard of Twine yet, it’s never too late to get started. Nowadays there are many sites that let you keep track of your interests, favorite items, blog posts, etc etc. And that’s exactly what Twine is all about too. So what makes it any different, or any better? Well first of all, you can collect just about anything – not just stuff online but also upload photos, videos etc. But the big reason I think Twine will become a huge player in the search industry is because it’s heavily based on semantic understanding.

The semantic web is coming, and is happening right beneath your eyes. It’s a new way of understanding data and how pieces of data relate to each other. I’m considering putting together a mini overview of semantic search, so keep an eye out if you’re interested in learning more.

What Twine is good at is learning how information is related to each other, and learning information about you. With that said – let’s chat about how Twine can help with our marketing efforts.

I’ve been a beta member for a few months, but just today Twine has officially gone public. In my account at Twine, I can create groups or join other people’s groups. In these groups, I can collect information from throughout the web or from my computer. Okay I know what you’re saying, “Big deal”… But here’s the good news.

Each group has an RSS feed.

If you’ve read any of my other posts related to RSS, you’ll know how powerful RSS marketing can be. Since Twine is likely to become a strong player in the search engines, it’s a smart move to get yourself involved now and create some groups. I know I’ll be using Twine as part of my social bookmarking and RSS marketing strategies from now on.

Why should you be pinging your blogs and websites? To let others know that you’ve updated your content of course! Pinging isn’t talked about much these days, because most blogs automatically handle pinging.

So who are we pinging anyways?

Well there are sites that offer pinging services through technology known as “XML-RPC”. When you ping one of these sites, you are sending a signal to their server, notifying them that your site content has updated. Now these sites offering pinging services often allow other sites to “poll” their results, so one can easily identify blogs that are updated through the server.

Pinging is simply another method to get your site indexed quickly and generate more traffic. It’s fast and simple as well. There are hundreds of ping services you could hunt down and send pings to, but that’s not fun nor simple. Which is why I really love this site: Pingler.com

Takes about 30 seconds to fill out the form. Just used it earlier today on a new Blogger blog, which previously had zero promoting done and is not yet indexed in Google. Will update accordingly when it gets updated by Google – from using pinging alone.

I came across this unique site and had to share it with you. The site, xFruits, exposes many tools to help you do more with your RSS feeds.

You can set up email alerts from RSS feeds, turn xFruits email messages into an RSS feed, publish RSS feed content to your blog, turn your RSS feeds into podcast output and much more.

I’m not affiliated with this site in any way, but am always on the lookout for useful tools like this dealing with RSS. Have some fun with it, and let me know what you think.

Dynamic Polls That Look Great

I just stumbled (literally, with StumbleUpon) a site named BuzzDash. Here, you can quickly and easily create a poll and publish it to your blog. I’ve thrown up a poll (in the sidebar) to try it out. This can be a great tool to find out more information about your customers. I like it because it’s dynamic – your visitors simply has to click on one of the provided answers and the poll updates automatically. Sweet!

Slinkset – like Reddit? Your Own Social News Network

This is an interesting site I recently came across, thanks to Twine that is. Are you familiar with the site Reddit? One of the unique features of Reddit is the ability for users to vote up or down specific items. Slinkset lets you build your own social news site, with the same functionality. I’ve just created my own Slinkset site and imported RSS feeds for this site as well as my writing/research site www.kazpro.com. Slinkset seems to take awhile to populate with the feed items, so my review is still pending.

Another feature I like about Slinkset is the ability to have your Slinkset url forward to your own domain name. Visitors can vote items on your Slinkset page up or down, causing the item to shift it’s place on the page (very similar to Reddit). You can even allow visitors to post their own content, thus turning your site into a social network. This could be a very useful platform for specific niches – I may have to play around with it some more.

While Slinkset seems to be a relatively new site, I think I’ll be monitoring it for awhile. A lot of new social sites are evolving lately, it will be interesting to see who comes out on top.

UPDATE:

In the time it took me to write this post, my feeds at my Slinkset site started showing up. I’ll give a thumbs up then for speed, since that’s relatively quick to populate. Although I read on their help forums that feeds are only refreshed every few hours.
